Benefits of a Health Coach
Achieving holistic well-being requires more than just a well-crafted workout routine or a meticulously planned diet. It involves a comprehensive approach that addresses not only the physical aspects of fitness but also the mental and emotional components.
Health coaching can play a vital role in our everyday goals of better health and freedom of movement.
A coach can help you to identify your goals and provide the clear steps to help you achieve it. A health coach is experienced in the health scope identifying lifestyle behaviours that you would like to change to improve your health and wellbeing and can make the overwhelming task totally achievable.
Working with a health coach
During your first meeting, your coach will take the time to find out exactly what it is you are trying to accomplish. Your coach will not only discover your goal but your motivations, possible barriers, other benefits of making these changes, support network and ensure both of you have a clear idea of which behaviour you want to change.
Once all of this has been determined you will work together to formulate a vision statement. This is a clear and concise statement of what it is you are trying to accomplish. This helps us to create long term goals and then to break it down into short term weekly goals. Most importantly, these goals are realistic and specific for you.
Following on from this, you will have regular follow ups with your coach to check in on your progress and reassess your goals.
You are the expert on your own body
As a health coach, we recognise that you know your body. You know what you enjoy, and what you don’t. You know what is possible and what is not. You know what you will put effort in for and what you will give up on.
This approach moves away from the therapist telling you what to do and moves towards an approach where you work together to come up with a goal that is important to you but is guided by the health professional to ensure you have the correct information to make this happen.
Reasons you need a health coach
1. Support – whether it is the first time you have made the commitment to change, or if you’ve been unsuccessful before, your coach will be your biggest support
2. Expertise – whilst you are your own expert, we can back it up with science and know exactly how to realistically reach your goal
3. Reflection – your coach will really help you to understand the ‘why’ of your goal.
4. Accountability – the expectation of success from your coach will often lead to progress.
5. Time management – clear and concise steps the whole way through.
Making lasting changes can bring feelings of excitement, confidence, and inspiration. Your health coach will set you up for success and may be the key you are missing from achieving your ultimate health.
